What is the Healthy Start Vitamins Service?

The Healthy Start Vitamins Service is designed to help ensure mothers and young children receive their required intake of certain vitamins. Eligible women who are 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4 can apply for a free NHS Healthy Start card online. This Healthy Start card can be shown to participating healthcare professionals to collect your free Healthy Start vitamins.


Am I eligible for the Healthy Start card?

  • If you are pregnant, you are entitled to Healthy Start Vitamin tablets until your baby’s 1st birthday.
  • Healthy Start Vitamin drops are free for children from 4 weeks until their 4th birthday.
  • Please note: if your child is on over 500ml of formula milk a day, Healthy Start Vitamins are not necessary.

Please speak to your midwife or health visitor who will be able to give you more information on where to get your free Healthy Start card. You can also find who stocks Healthy Start vitamins in your area here.
